Saudi PrinceA Saudi prince has been convicted of murdering his manservant, who was found beaten to death in bed at a plush London hotel. The defendant spent most of the trial trying to prove he was not gay. Why?

Before his trial began at the Old Bailey, Prince Saud bin Abdulaziz bin Nasir al Saud made strenuous efforts to keep the question of his homosexuality secret.

The 34-year-old prince admitted he had assaulted his manservant, Bandar Abdulaziz, but denied murder.

His barrister, John Kelsey-Fry QC, argued the question of sexuality was irrelevant to the case and pointed out homosexual acts were a “mortal sin” under Islamic sharia law.

Mr Kelsey-Fry said if the prince was outed as a homosexual he could face execution in his native Saudi Arabia.

Jonathan Laidlaw QC, prosecuting, argued that if he was convicted and recommended for deportation after serving his sentence he would be able to claim asylum in Britain by arguing that his life was in danger, whether or not he actually was gay.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second instalment in the Harry Potter series written by J. K. Rowling. The plot follows Harry’s second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, during which a series of messages on the walls on the school’s corridors warn that the “Chamber of Secrets” has been opened and that the “heir of Slytherin” will kill all pupils who do not come from all-magical families. These threats are followed by attacks which leave residents of the school “petrified” (that is, frozen). Throughout the year, Harry and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger investigate the attacks, and Harry is confronted by Lord Voldemort, who is attempting to regain full power.

The book was published in the United Kingdom on 2 July 1998 by Bloomsbury and in the United States on 2 June 1999 by Scholastic Inc. Although Rowling found it difficult to finish the book, it won high praise and awards from critics, young readers and the book industry, although some critics thought the story was perhaps too frightening for younger children. Some religious authorities have condemned its use of magical themes, while others have praised its emphasis on self-sacrifice and on the way in which a person’s character is the result of the person’s choices.

Some lines from Chapter One:
The Worst Birthday
Not for the first time, an argument had broken out over breakfast at number four, Privet Drive. Mr. Vernon Dursley had been woken in the early hours of the morning by a loud, hooting noise from his nephew Harry’s room.

“Third time this week!” he roared across the table. “If you can’t control that owl, it’ll have to go!”

Harry tried, yet again, to explain.

“She’s bored,” he said. “She’s used to flying around outside. If I could just let her out at night -”

“Do I look stupid?” snarled Uncle Vernon, a bit of fried egg dangling from his bushy mustache. “I know what’ll happen if that owl’s let out.”

Last time I used Nokia phone was in 2007, and after that, I was quite happy with the brands I was using. However, once again I decided to join the Nokia following bargain so I am back on Nokia now. For last one month and a half, I am using Nokia 5230. A nice phone and good to have it but I am not much satisfied. Well contradiction is there in my last statement but yes, I have to accept it is a nice phone but I am not satisfied because it is missing some certain features for which I bought it.

It is easy to use, and the touch panel works well hence it is bit slow. It has a wide screen so it’s fun to watch videos on it, its music player and radio are also cool but there is a certain feature which is annoying as any SMS dropped in while music, video of radio is on the ring tone spoiled the fun. It is something I am not much familiar with as in my last phone there was only vibration no sound in such case.

Nokia do not allow transferring Music from PC to Phone via blue tooth using pc suite. I got 2 GB memory card with it so far it is enough for me however; it can be extended up to 8 GB card. Writing SMS is not as cool as it used to be on other key oriented phone this might be the reason because I am not used to touch phones.

One thing I must mention here is its voice during the call is quite low, and sometimes it is hard to understand what other person is saying. It can be connected to any speaker using the stereo pin and one can enjoy music with louder voice.

Using internet is an interesting feature on it as being touch oriented phone its really cool to scroll and click on the desired links or pictures. The writing panel that appears while you are writing something e.g. SMS, Email, Text, Web Links, etc is quite user friendly and it changes itself to full key board from conventional keys of phone just by flipping it to the horizontal view. I have noticed that it turns into the landscape mode easily but it take time to sense when it is supposed to resume to the tower view.

A 13-year-old American boy has become the youngest person ever to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak.

Jordan Romero of California reached the Himalayan summit, 8,850 meters above sea level, on Saturday, surpassing the previous record holder, 16-year-old Temba Tsheri of Nepal.

Nepal does not allow anyone under the age of 16 to climb Mount Everest due to the danger involved, so Romero and his team, which included his dad and stepmother, entered from the Chinese side.

The website documenting Romero’s journey said he was “unbelievably happy” when he called from the summit via satellite phone. He now needs only to scale Vinson Massif, in Antarctica to complete his quest to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents.

Romero reached the Everest summit with a group of mountaineers, including a Nepalese Sherpa named Apa who broke his own world record by climbing Everest for a 20th time.

Apa was joined by other mountaineers to collect garbage left behind by other climbers and bring awareness to the issue of global climate change. [- source : -]
